UNKNOWN FOOD RESOURCES FOR PAINFUL BONES AND JOINTS

As an active person, you need to realize that food and drink are not just a matter of responding to hunger and thirst, and eating a proper diet is not just about controlling your weight. Nutrition, like exercise, is a form of medicine. Here are few not so common food resources that can be highly helpful for achy bones and joints:

  1. Turmeric - The antioxidant in yellow mustard, is available as an extract in 400 to 600 mg dosages, but it, too, has to build up for 8 weeks or so before it will reduce inflammation.
  2. L-Arginine -  It is an amino acid that may stimulate insulin production (insulin is one of the body's most potent tissue-building hormones), enhance the production of critical protein structures, improve immune function, and also increase the synthesis of nitric acid and nitrous oxide, which dilate blood vessels and promote the delivery of oxygen to damaged tissues.
  3. Ginger - It is a natural anti-inflammatory that can be taken in pills in daily amounts from 500 to 1000 mg. You have to give it time to show any effect, because it takes awhile to build up.
  4. Zyflamend - It is a combination of ginger, turmeric, and other anti-inflammatory agents. High doses can cause a burning sensation in stomach, so always take it with food.

  5. Boswellia - It is a herb from Ayurvedic medicine, available in capsules, that reduces inflammation and improves blood supply to the joints.

  6. Acetyl L- Carnitine - With Alpha Lipoic Acid, is an anti-aging compound being marketed over the internet. There has been at least one credible study showing older mice "getting up and doing the Macarena" when given the substance, and it is now undergoing clinical trials. Supposedly it works by protecting the mitochondria, the "furnaces" where the oxygen is burning to create energy. Also it helps in reducing weight so as the compressive forces acting on the joints, mainly knee joint,  also decreases.
  7. Coenzyme Q10 - This may neutralize free radicals within the mitochondria, preserving mitochondrial integrity.
